Vision Need Not Worry About US Airways

Yesterday, Parker said that US Airways is unlikely to ever use Mesa-Williams Gateway Airport. This is obvious to many of us, but it serves to underscore the point that there are many revenue opportunities for new entrants that do not fit the hub and spoke model.

Parker is right. It would make absolutely no sense for them to use that airport, as nice as it is.

But I would also worry about relying to heavily on unproven new entrant carriers. I know I sound like a broken record, but the tarmacs are littered with start-up carriers promising smaller airports the moon and leaving them with nothing but debt and no air service.

Sure. Airports need to be smart in their allocation of time to speculative opportunities. This is not a black & white issue (very few things are).
